Margot Hidalgo, a 17-year-old teenager, has lived all her life in a humble area, where every day was a constant struggle to get ahead. Her parents, although they worked long hours, never stopped dreaming of a better future for her. However, those dreams seemed increasingly distant due to the constant bullying she suffered at school. Although she tried to ignore it, the cruel words of her classmates hurt her deeply. There were days when she thought about giving up and giving in, but something inside her found hope in wanting to overcome her pain and pushed her to keep going.
Margot, from when she was 8 years of age, began to frequent the Children’s Centre, where her life began to change. She received not only play-focused activities, but also academic support and psychological therapy. She found in this space a place of acceptance, where she was able to make new friends who helped her feel better about herself. The play workshops were especially important, as they allowed her to regain a part of her childhood that had been lost amidst responsibilities and worries.
Through psychological therapies, Margot learned to manage her emotions and to empower herself to deal with bullying, understanding that her value did not depend on the opinions of others. In addition, the gym in the centre, where she participates each day, was not only beneficial to her physical fitness, but also contributed to improving her emotional well-being. The academic support she received at the library was crucial for her preparation for the entrance exams to the University “Emilia Barcia Boniffatti” to study teaching.
Despite her initial insecurities, Margot soon discovered that she was far more capable than she had imagined. Over time, she learned to trust herself and her abilities to overcome any obstacle. Today, she has made it to university, continuing on her path to a better future, knowing that perseverance and hard work have taken her further than she ever thought possible.
