Esther

Age: 16 years

Esther’s story is a profound testimony to the human capacity to heal and find hope, even when life has been deeply unfair. At 13, her life was marked by suffering and abuse, leading her to see the world as a cruel and bleak place. But when she entered the St. Bernadette’s Children’s Home, she found something she had never known before, safety. The caregivers and staff were dedicated to providing her with the support she needed so that she could begin to heal, even though fear and mistrust were a constant companion at first.

Esther barely spoke and avoided contact with others, reflecting the deep emotional pain she was carrying. Over time, however, she began to receive the necessary support in the form of psychological therapy, both individual and group, which allowed her to begin to understand and process her emotions. In that safe space, she learned that the suffering she had experienced did not define her value as a person and she began to use tools to manage the anxiety and sadness that had accompanied her for so long.

In addition to emotional support, the home provided her with access to quality education. The teachers, aware of her story, were patient and encouraged her to overcome her academic fears. Through creative projects and extracurricular activities, Esther discovered her love of learning, which became a way to escape her painful past and build a future full of possibilities. Today, at 16, Esther is not only an outstanding student, but also a symbol of resilience, hope and strength. Her story shows that even though the road may be difficult, there is always an opportunity to rise, heal and shine. Esther is a living example that, with the right support, love and determination, it is possible to overcome any adversity and forge a new destiny.
