We, the St. Bernadette’s Child Protection Team, are continuing our work throughout 2017 promoting the defense of, and respect for, the human rights of children in the local educational institutions. Our goal is to increase the capacities of the actors involved, school principals, teachers, parents and children in order to, as a united front, promote the prevention of abuse, and manage procedures whenever an act or suspicion of sexual abuse arises.

In the current year the protection team has signed agreements with the school principles of four public schools, “Carlos Cueto Fernandini” , “República Oriental del Uruguay”,  “20 de Abril”  y “Chavín de Huantar” which have shown the disposition and openness to incorporate in their management plan a Child Protection Policy, which will contain the procedures to follow in order to promote secure spaces free from sexual abuse and mistreatment of their pupils.

To this end we have organized workshops for discussion and formation, while strengthening the abilities of the school principals, teachers, parents and children, as they are the main protagonists in the elaboration of the their own Child Protection Policy, which will also include the formation of Child Protection Teams for the active intervention against any abuse or mistreatment in their schools.
